Objects on the kinematic love plane:
Objects and objects together.
I began to create and juxtapose "window" framed constructions/ objects as a way of flattening dimensions into expressive planes, creating a dynamic that thrives on the verticals and horizontals, diagonals and ovals; to contrast line, textures and materials from each vantage point and turn the installation back into working like a painting.
The process and drive to make these objects came from the translation of being able to hold a beautifully carved or machined object (in this case a wooden massage tool) in the palm of my hand and then remake the object to a larger scale through quite an elaborate process of laminating and cutting of different wood. I wanted to see what happens when the function of an object is replaced with a purposely 'useless' function. This in itself opens up a world of seeing the object in another way, as it becomes something else. It asks for a different approach or interaction from the viewer. I wanted to keep the corporal feel and familiar touch present in wood patinas and begin to work with the volume and the edging in the dynamics of their construction and juxtaposition with other objects.
